Come listen to a presentation by Environmental Attorney Dan Galperm about using the law to combat climate change and promote environmental stewardship.
Dan has assisted famed climate scientist Dr. James Hansen as a legal advisor and strategist in state and federal climate-related matters throughout the United States of America and around the world. Their efforts are to use the law to take the Climate Emergency head-on, including efforts to stop fossil fuel expansion and preserve forests as important carbon sinks.
Dan is also the author of:
Atmospheric Recovery Litigation: Making the Fossil Fuel Industry Pay to Restore A Viable Climate System (with Mary Wood), Journal of Environmental Law: 2016
Climate Change 101: Urgency and Response, Journal of Environmental Law and Litigation: 2008
At present, Dan is:
Co-prosecuting a suit against cutting down regenerating forests on the border of Yosemite National Park;
Assisting a citizen’s challenge to expansion of the Dakota Access Pipeline before the Illinois Utilities Commission, for exacerbating the climate crisis;
Aiding the defense of so-called “Value Turner” activists, in upcoming “Defense of Necessity” trials in Minnesota and Washington State;
Assisting environmental litigants in opposing the KXL pipeline in the US and the Transmountain (Pipeline) Expansion in Canada, to halt a vast expansion of fossil fuel emissions.
