To help educate the members of the LGBT Caucus, our fellow Democrats and the general public on gender identity, and gender expression we are holding:

  • Dr. Samuel Hawk - Dr. Hawk is a primary care physician that specializes in Transgender Health. He is the founder and CEO of the Lavender Clinic which provides LGBTQI medical and mental health services and Transgender Health training for health professionals and community organizations. He is also an activist for the gender non-binary and Transgender communities.
  • Dr. Renee Rumler - Clinical Director of Lavender Clinic
  • Rebecca Copeland, Esq. - Ms. Copeland is an attorney who concentrates her law practice in the area of appeals. She is currently serving her second term on the Hawaii State Bar Association’s Board as an Oahu Director. She also serves on the Bar Association’s Committee on Diversity, Equality and the Law; and on the Hawaii’s Judiciary’s Committee on Equality and Access to the Courts.  Rebecca is a former board member of Equality Hawaii and the Hawaii LGBT Legacy Foundation.  During her time with Equality Hawaii, she advocated during the 2015 and 2016 Hawaii legislative sessions for the passage of the Transgender Birth Certificate Bill and the Transgender Insurance Bill.  She is also the mother of a transgender young adult.
  • Kaleo Tevaitea Ramos, MEd. - Mr. Ramos is a licensed general and special education teacher within the Department of Education specializing in mild to moderate disabilities, grades K-12. Kaleo is currently teaching 6th grade in a Hawaiian charter school in Honolulu. Kaleo has an AA in Liberal Studies, a BA in Hawaiian Language, a BA in Elementary Education, and a Post-Baccalaureate in Special Education. He is currently seeking a Master’s degree in Secondary Education and plan to add a graduate certificate in conflict management/peace studies. In addition to Kaleo’s career as a teacher he is also involved in a number of activities and services within the LGBTQIA community.
